Regenerative F.A.Q.

Top Ten F.A.Q.

What are stem cells?

Stem cells are biological cells that have the ability to reproduce into other kinds of cells in the body. Each time a stem cell divides, it forms a mother cell that is identical to the original and a daughter cell that has the potential to be a new type of cell. Depending on the situation, it could be a bone cell, a blood cell, a muscle cell, a fat cell, or even a nerve cell.

New cells formed by stem cells also have the potential to divide and reproduce, increasing the supply of healthy cells to rebuild a damaged area in the body. Stem cells are the self-renewing building blocks for every type of cell in the human body.

What are the applications of stem cells, and how does it work?

When cells are damaged or suffering in some way, they communicate through a process called “cell signaling.” When this happens, proteins are released called cytokines that communicate the presence of damaged cells. Certain stem cells known as mesenchymal stem cells are attracted to cytokines. Like moths to a candle, they are drawn to the source of the damage, and there, they begin to do their work, dividing into new, healthy cells. This increases the number of healthy cells in the problematic area, allowing the area to regenerate. Mesenchymal stem cells are self-renewing, anti-inflammatory, regenerative, and immunomodulatory. This makes stem cells a valuable tool in the fight against chronic pain and inflammation.
As opposed to external intervention, stem cell therapy relies on the body’s own self-healing mechanisms. An injection of mesenchymal stem cells at the site of chronic inflammation or chronic pain acts as an internal repair system. As mesenchymal stem cells divide, tissues that have degenerated or have suffered inflammation can repair themselves. Stem cells are considered regenerative medicine (a type of medicine that replaces and/or regenerates human cells).
Mesenchymal stem cells can help the body repair cells that have been damaged by disease or injuries. Stem cells have the potential to repair tendons, muscles, and bones, and breakthroughs have even been observed in the treatment of brain injuries and developmental disorders.

Where do these stem cells come from?

All stem cells used in our stem cell therapy come from donated umbilical cords from healthy babies and healthy mothers in the United States who have been prescreened for disease, psychological health issues, and drug use.

Why do we use umbilical stem cells?

The stem cells used in stem cell therapy are donated from the umbilical cords of healthy newborns. Umbilical tissue is a rich source of mesenchymal stem cells, which are considered the most effective for use in stem cell therapy. The unique properties of umbilical cord-derived stem cells have been used for decades in the field of surgical organ transplants to help reduce the chances of organ rejection.

Stem cells (like the rest of our bodies) tend to lose a certain amount of effectiveness as they age. In other words, the younger the better. That’s why all of our umbilical stem cells are donated by healthy mothers and babies from within the United States.

Note: Umbilical cord-derived stem cells are NOT embryonic stem cells. Umbilical cord-derived stem cells are post-natal cells and are therefore considered the youngest form of adult stem cells.

How are stem cells superior to other forms of treatment?

While most forms of medical treatment are aimed at treating symptoms, stem cells are aimed at fixing the underlying problem.

While we do recommend a couple days of rest after receiving stem cell therapy, it does not involve any overnight hospital stays—or the weeks of bed rest that tend to accompany surgical intervention. Anesthesia and other common risks related to surgery are circumvented, and the entire process can be completed in less than thirty minutes. Not only that, but because stem cells are drawn to cytokines, it is not uncommon for a patient receiving treatment for one issue to discover that other areas of their body have begun to heal as well.

Are stem cells services safe?

Umbilical cord-derived stem cells are undifferentiated, meaning that the host body will not reject them. Additionally, the progenitor cells produced in stem cell division have a built-in limit to the number of times they can divide, which negates the potential for undesired, excessive cell division. There are no negative side effects. The only contraindication to be aware of is that you should not have any active form of cancer. Our stem cell therapy practices abide by standards set in place by the Food and Drug Administration, the American Association of Blood Banks, the National Institutes of Health, and the American Association of Tissue Banks.

Will I need to go through a donor match process?

One of the most extraordinary attributes of the stem cells used in stem cell therapy is that a donor match process is not required, and there is zero transfer of DNA.

Who can benefit from regenerative medicine?

Adults of any age have been shown to benefit from stem cells, but the most notable results usually occur in patients who are suffering from chronic pain.

Will my health insurance cover stem cell therapy?

Most health insurance policies will not currently cover stem cell therapy utilized for regenerative medicine purposes. The overall cost will vary based on the severity of the problem and the number of treatments required to treat it.

What sort of results can I expect?

Stem cell services are a relatively new form of regenerative medicine. Results have been shown to vary based on diet and lifestyle, but research shows that when the root of the problem has been addressed, successful stem cell therapy offers long-term results.

Success Stories

Mr. Walter

“Before my stem cells, I was in a lot of pain when I’m driving the car, getting out of the car, getting up in the morning, going to the bathroom– almost every activity– even sleeping. I had to lay a certain way and it just got to the point where whatever would take to get rid of the pain I did. My pain was between an eight and a nine—[after stem cells] my pain is now between a two and three! When you’re tired of the pain, come here!”

Mr. Fortuno

“I was suffering from chronic sciatica for two years, very extreme, and hip problems. And a really bad walk. It was affecting my livelihood to tell you the truth. After my injection, the pain in my back is pretty much gone and my hips are getting better. My sleep is phenomenal now! Before, I would have to roll over because of the hips and sciatica almost every half hour so my sleep was terrible! Yeah, it’s very impressive compared to before. And, to me, that’s a big break in life. I’m also walking straight. Previous doctors only worked with the symptoms and [they talked about] major surgery. I’m only 55 and I’ll be damned if I want a hip replacement.
I thank you, doctor. Thank you.

Ms. Conte

I had extensive knee pain. I couldn’t bend. I couldn’t get up. It woke me up in the middle of the night. I was in a lot of pain every day– I would say between 6 to 10 years! Walking, carrying groceries, going up and down stairs, getting in and out of the car, sometimes even just sleeping! I had an immediate relief. I just don’t have pain anymore. I can do almost anything that I couldn’t do without thinking, “If I turn this way, it’s going to hurt,” or, “If I kneel down it’s,” … Even in church, which I’m trying not to kneel too much just yet, but it’s just so much different now. I don’t have any pain.

I’m finally getting a great night’s sleep. I’m waking up refreshed, and I actually feel, like, reborn again. Before anyone ever goes under a knife, this is such a great, state of the art way to do things. You just don’t have that same pain and I know, people in my family have to go to extensive therapy after their surgery. The only therapy I’m doing is enjoying my life!

Ms. Pratson

I had terrible neck pain and back pain. It almost felt like I had a hot poker going up my spine most of the … every day, actually– for more than 30 years. After my injection, I was totally amazed about how little I felt as far as the pain went. I’ve noticed a definite decrease in the amount of medications I have to take, it’s nothing like I was taking before. Sitting, standing for any length of time. Lying in bed even– I find a lot less fighting with the bed pillows! I’m definitely sleeping better.
